Red Feline can't keep quiet any longer. Her pent-up protestations burst from her mouth.

She begs for mercy, not for herself, but for the nun. She starts with a polite, even sweet request of mercy.  

But the whipping does not cease. There is no pause, no recognition, no response to her cries. She is enraged with this horrible act and the inhuman man committing it.  

Her cries for mercy only make the torturer more cruel, his strikes grow in intensity. At one point he receives a loud scream from the nun, which is immediately followed by a loud scream and curse from Red Feline.  

This annoys the torturer who normally doesn't mind the screaming and begging of his prisoners. He is used to those futile, desperate cries. They were never a factor before. This time, the wench in the cage has gone over some unwritten limit.  

He turns away from the nun and goes to silence the redheaded wench.

The torturer kicks Red Feline through the gate a couple of times, warning her of a far more stern punishment if she does not quiet down.

The woman cries out in pain at the hard kick to her legs and draws herself back, screaming. 

She curses him, this vicious man, she curses him to hell, twice...if that is possible.

The torturer makes sure the red-haired wench knows that he was not going to be as considerate to her as she was to the poor nun, who, as far as he was concerned, was probably as innocent as she claimed to be.

Melissa has a brief moment of relief, which, in spite of herself, she treasures. She didn't know how eager she was for her ordeal to be over. She feels weak, not physically, but spiritually.  

She has received more than thirty lashes already, but she could not count them. She feels she can resist more. She must endure more. Perhaps her endurance will prove her innocence.

Red Feline doesn't learn her lesson, she doesn't stop begging and cursing.  

But the torturer does not allow himself to be distracted any further, he is just beginning his task and he has to bring the poor nun to a breaking point.  

He deafens himself to the insulting cries of that crazy woman. "That one is a witch, for sure.", he thinks.
