Hanging by the Wrists
Hanging
by the wrists, the body's weight pulling down, can
be extremely painful. A prisoner would often
be left hanging, or tortured while hanging.
Not uncommon in modern times. Actually, fairly
common everywhere and at any period in history.
In colonial times, slaves were routinely
hanged and whipped. One slave woman in the US was
hanged from a tree and whipped 200 times, she died.
Klaus Barbie, the "Carnicero de Lyon"
was fond of hanging people from a bar and having
them beaten with pipes. And most recently, in Irak,
prisoners were hanged as well.
Remaining
up like that for a prolonged period of time can
cause death by asfixiation, since the diaphram cannot
function normally. The victim struggles to
breathe.
If the victim survives, it is possible
that she would be paralyzed for life.
