February 4th

We have a great looking poster ... I worked on it a lot, with a woman designer, her name is Carmen, she's not the most likely person to be doing that, but she's good. After a couple of days of working with the design, it was ready for the printer. They are fast, I saw the proofs yesterday and today the posters are ready, some of them at least. We are getting ready to go. Margot is coming back tomorrow..

We'll leave for New York tomorrow. We went to the movies to see a film with Natasha Kinsky, they say I look like her, I don't think so. Margot was a bit upset for some reason, I think she is a bit jealous and she doesn't want to show it. She's upset because I'm going to NY with JJ.

February 8th

We are on the plane, on our way to New York. I'm very excited, I've never been there before. It's JJ's territory, he lived there for many, many years ... he moved there before I was born. He's not so young, coming to think of it. When he mentions his life in New York, the early seventies, Viet Nam, his student days ... all of it long before I was born ... I feel like a kid.

He promised me to show me the best of the city. The clubs, the joints, as he calls them some times. I'm excited.

My first day in NY started nice. It's cold out, I forgot how cold it can get in this part of the world. I forgot about the snow and the freezing wind. I dressed warmly and we went out.

The first thing we did is to go all the way downtown to the ferry, to see the city from the boat. It was so cold that it was difficult to be out there looking at the water and the buildings that make the face of New York.

It's a beautiful city and now I love it.

We are staying at a studio apartment in Queens, a small place that is used by JJ when he passes by NY. The place has a history of survival, love, anguish and many, many stories. Margot stayed here a few years ago. I'm in a 'historic' place and now it is my turn.

It's very warm inside. I can walk around naked and see the snow outside. We eat chinese food from the corner restaurant. No more cooked food. No maids to make the bed, to clean the room, to wash the dishes. Now it's our work.
